Innovative Educational & Welfare Society
Coexistence

Innovative Educational and Welfare Society is an old, humble “Not for Profit” organisation with a mission to make this universe a better place for all creatures in pain and need. Our mission is to help all the voiceless animals in distress especially small animals, old individuals and children with special needs. Our organisation began in the year 2003 and has been committed to make a change in our society and touch lives.

The founder of the program has been feeding and caring for street animals for almost over a decade now but the Coexistence program formally started in 2016 followed by Healing Home in the year 2020 and are dedicated to the welfare of all animals. We are involved in various activities such as the feeding of 580+ street animals daily, conducting sterilization-vaccination drives for street dogs and cats, creating awareness, rescuing and treating injured/ill / abandoned animals, extricating animals who are abused/neglected by their “owners” and rehabilitating all animals in need of a home by facilitating adoptions.

   Healing Home

We don’t believe in a concept of shelter. We have a HOME for healing & Hospice. This healing is in
and out. We have 70 plus resident dogs. They are ALL rescues – some handicapped, some blind, some
very old, some renal failure while others are fighting with cancer. There are some handicapped ones
too. Most come in a very bad shape with broken spirits and bodies. Many pups who have recovered
have not found any home as they are indies so they continue to live with us.

Rescue Van

We manage an animal rescue van which is available for 10 hours daily for any small animal in need. It
also helps in our sterilisation mission. This is for picking and dropping the animal. Most of the times
this ferries our rescues to the vet.

Rescues & Healing Home

We keep rescuing animals in need – Mainly (Small Animals: dogs, cats, goats, rabbits, squirrels &
birds). On the street, in neighbourhood, we are called for injured, sick animals / birds. We try catering
to maximum such cases and provide timely help. Either we keep the rescued animal in a paid medical
boarding, or we foster them, or we keep them in their own territory with due visits to the vet when
possible. However, some dogs who are old and sick and need long-term care are kept in our Healing
Home. The idea is always to help the case reach a happy recovery state. Once the animal gets well,
we leave them back in their territory. In a case we cannot leave them in their territory – we try get
them adopted. Presently, our facility is already overflowing with 74 plus dogs with NO sponsor even
for one.

Adoptions

We also rescue abandoned/ lost animals and try get them new happy homes. The Coexistence team
was also involved to help the lab tested animals (Beagles) and many more helpless animals. We have
strong adoption process, with non-negotiable pre-post checks and adoption contract papers.

Feeding and on ground treatments

Feeding helps familiarize the dogs and cats to us, which is helpful when we want to catch any of the
dogs or cats for vaccinations, sterilization and/or treatment. Together the team feeds over 580 street
dogs and about 15 cats on the street. Most of us have gained knowledge to treat basic wounds and
illnesses on ground. The Program Director has done basic para-vet training and is closely associated
with the area vets and is capable to give first aid or treat the animals on road. We cover different area
of widely spread Vasant Kunj, a colony situated in the South West Part of Delhi. Also, not to forget
that our resident dogs at the healing home are fed twice and get treats occasionally. Most are on
medication and many of prescribed diet too. We usually need to procure medicines on a regular basis.

Vaccination Drives

We strongly believe in overall wellbeing of our community animals and therefore it is not about
feeding and letting them be. We ensure that all the animals that we feed and many others that we are
not feeding must all be fully vaccinated against Rabies and other fatal canine diseases. From time to
time – vaccination drives are organised in the area. Our last drive was co-organised by Indian Oil
Corporation and was a great success.

 Sterilization

Population control is the key to reduce human – animal conflict as well as the Mantra to keep our canines safe and healthy. We work on the area wise approach here where we work closely with the area feeder and local volunteers and make the area puppy free. We have, in the last 3 years helped at creating a puppy free zone in various pockets of Vasant Kunj. We have got more than 650 sterilisations done. This work is an ongoing one and we hope that soon we will be able to demonstrate this exemplary work for other Delhi areas to follow.

Your support will enable us continue our work as we are currently at a stage wherein due to monetary constraints, we may not be able to do much.
